Therapy

Who is therapy for?

Everyone (children, adolescents and adults) feels low or worried at some point in their life. Sometimes these feelings will go away on their own. However, for lots of different reasons, and for lots of people, these feelings can persist. This can often make it difficult to carry on with day to day life.

Therapy can help you understand why you feel the way you do and support you with working towards feeling better.

I am able to provide a range of therapeutic approaches (listed below) for a range of presenting difficulties:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Mindfulness

  • Couples Therapy

  • Systemic Therapy (Family Therapy)

Please note: My availability for new therapy referrals is currently limited. If I’m unable to accommodate you at this time, I may recommend trusted colleagues who have greater flexibility.

Specialist Neurodevelopmental Assessment (for Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Autism and ADHD are lifelong, developmental disorders that affect how a person manages the demands of everyday life. This includes differences in their ability to manage communication, relationships, daily activities and demands as well as general functioning (e.g., managing parenting; education; employment etc.) Autism and ADHD impact how people experience the world.

Autism and adhd assessments

I offer these assessments for children, adolescents and adults. The nature of these assessments mean that they are conducted through a team of psychologists with my colleagues at Avenue Therapies. This is to ensure an appropriate, NICE (gold standard) recommended assessment process. Our assessments are holistic and we aim to provide individuals being assessed with a supportive assessment. Our assessments do not only answers a question about whether or not there is a diagnosis to be made, but ensure a collaboratively developed understanding of the individuals strengths and areas in need of support. We are keen to ensure appropriate recommendations of support and strategies for deepening one’s understanding of themselves.

Cognitive Assessment

What is a Cognitive Assessment?

A cognitive assessment is a structured evaluation carried out by a Clinical Psychologist, an Educational Psychologist or a Neuropsychologist to understand how you think, learn, and process information. It explores areas such as memory, attention, problem-solving and reasoning. The results identify strengths, areas for support, and strategies to improve day-to-day functioning.

These assessment can also be useful for informing Neurodevelopmental Assessments.

Assessments can include:

  1. An assessment of an individuals strengths and weaknesses.

  2. A Learning Disability assessment which includes overall cognitive ability and everyday functioning considerations.

Professional Consultation, Supervision, Teaching, Training and Workshops

Professional consultation

I am experienced in providing professional consultation to colleagues in a range of settings. Professional consultation can be helpful when working with complex cases or dynamics where an objective point of view or psychologically informed understanding may be useful for promoting change.

supervision

I am experienced in providing supervision to psychology and non-psychology colleagues (namely social workers). A compassion focused, systemic approach to supervision may be helpful for colleagues who are feeling particularly "stuck" with a case or an organisational dilemma. I am especially interested in anti-oppressive supervision practice, and have disseminated research in this area.

Teaching

I have worked as a guest lecturer at Canterbury Christchurch University and the University of Surrey. I have collaborated and published scientific research forming part of the Clinical Intervention and Practice Research Group at the University of Surrey.

training and workshops

I have worked in collaboration with a group of Psychologists to provide training and workshops to businesses and schools (where workshops have been designed to support teachers and parents with a given presenting issue such as managing anxiety).

Please contact me for further information if you are interested in accessing the above services.
